Does My Small Crafting Business Need Insurance?

When I started doing craft shows in 2017, one of the things I never even thought of was having insurance for my crafts. At this point I wasn’t even a “real business” so it never even crossed my mind. While I was doing the registration papers for the show it required liability insurance and I had no clue how to go about getting it. I called my insurance broker and to say he was confused was an understatement. He wasn’t sure how he would go about providing me with insurance for my handmade products when I wasn’t really a business at all. He went and did some research and when he came back to me, he didn’t have any real viable solutions, so I took to the internet.

I did some searching and I was able to find a few insurance companies that actually specialize in insurance for crafters! There are a few options for crafters and how much insurance you choose to get will be up to you. I also believe the insurance you choose to get depends upon what you are selling. For me, I went with the General liability insurance so that if I was at a show and anything happened to another person because of my setup, I would be covered. There is also Product Liability insurance and that might be a good option for anyone making products like soap or other types of cosmetic type products.
